Animal Welfare Community Initiative By Community Health Mission

Shvan.org, a Frontal Organization of Animal Welfare Community Initiative of Community Health Mission, is an advisory body on animal protection laws and promotes animal welfare in the country. Established in 2015 under the Community Health Mission for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the community was founded under the leadership of Ms. Arnika Kohli, a well-known humanitarian and philanthropist.

The Community ensures that animal welfare laws are diligently followed, provides grants to animal welfare organizations, and advises the Government of India on animal welfare issues. It has been at the forefront of the animal welfare movement in India for over 8 years. The Community consists of 25 members, including 6 members of the Community Health Mission and (5) India Health Fund Limited, with each member serving a term of 5 years.

Our Objective

At the heart of our mission is a deep commitment to the rescue and rehabilitation of stray dogs, providing them with the care and protection they desperately need. Through our dedicated dog rescue efforts, we aim to offer a loving shelter for dogs where each animal receives not only shelter and medical care but also the chance to heal and thrive. By fostering a community-centered approach, we seek to raise awareness about the pain of stray dogs, reduce their numbers through ethical intervention, and advocate for a future where every dog has a safe home and a second chance at happiness.

1.

Rescue & Rehabilitation

Our rescue team works tirelessly to bring dogs from unsafe environments to our safe, loving shelter for dogs. Upon arrival, each dog receives immediate medical care and attention.

2.

Digital Dog Bank

This platform maintains real-time, comprehensive records on each dog, including their exact geolocation, health status, and vaccination history. With this digital database, we can monitor their medical progress, track their treatment, and make informed decisions about their care. It also helps us connect with other shelters, volunteers, and local authorities to coordinate rescue efforts more efficiently.

3.

Sponsorship Program

Through sponsorship, you provide vital support, covering medical care, food, and rehabilitation costs while helping a dog on their journey to recovery. Your support doesn’t just provide a dog with shelter it gives them hope for a brighter future.

4.

Dog Commander Initiative

The Dog Commander Initiative is our proactive approach to safeguarding stray dogs in different areas. We have a dedicated team of trained, paid volunteers—our Dog Commanders—who patrol specific clusters, ensuring every stray dog is cared for and protected. These Commanders not only provide food and monitor the dogs’ health but also step in whenever there’s a need for immediate rescue or support.

5.

Community Awareness & Sensitization

We work to teach the public about the importance of treating animals ethically and how to avoid conflicts between humans and dogs. By spreading awareness and encouraging responsible behavior, we aim to create a community where stray dogs are cared for, and people and dogs can live together peacefully.

6.

Best NGO/Volunteer Recognition

We celebrate and reward NGOs and volunteers in Delhi NCR who go above and beyond in their dedication to rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for dogs in need. By highlighting their exceptional work, we not only acknowledge their impact but also inspire others to join the movement.

7.

Quarterly Dog Welfare Conclave

Conduct quarterly conclaves in each district of Delhi and satellite cities (Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad), involving the Government, NGOs, and dog welfare professionals to discuss policies and best practices.
